Abide in Safety. Take Refuge in God.
We are the agents of change that this world is crying out for, whether they recognize us as servants of the Most High or not.
My dear sister warriors, we are in a time of great challenges and great victories. Our purpose is becoming clearer by the moment as we focus on what the plans of God are for our nations and our world, so full of distraught and desperate people. We are the agents of change that this world is crying out for, whether they recognize us as servants of the Most High or not.
The people of this time in history are sick and tired of being locked down, wearing masks everywhere they go, enduring instability and chaos in many professions, being considered essential or nonessential workers. People are tired of being treated like animals, forced to comply with the latest protocols of the whimsy of the establishment. People are tired of letting an unseen virus control everything about their lives. So, what can we, the world changers, do to transform the atmosphere of fear and anxiety into an atmosphere of confidence and joy? Our best direction comes from the scriptures! We can share our faith in God’s plan with those who are discouraged and frightened.
You shall not be afraid of the destruction that lays waste at noonday!
The ninety-first Psalm gives us guidance for finding that confidence and joy. King David knew what it was like to hide out from his enemies by finding a safe refuge. He had to escape, from King Saul’s armies and the armies of Canaanite nations, time after time; his place of safety was in the hands of God. The Psalmist writes:
1He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High
Shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.
2 I will say of the Lord, “He is my refuge and my fortress;
My God, in Him I will trust.”
Read these words over again out loud. The protection of the Almighty God is a secret place, a place to dwell, to abide, to live in. When we commit to staying in God’s protection, not wandering around in the continual troubles of the outside world, we can say, “The Lord is my refuge and my fortress! In God I will trust!” There is no safer place in all the world. Spiritual protection is far safer than any kind of physical fortress, community association, vaccination, full larder or solar battery. Spiritual protection is the assurance of God’s perfect will established in your own personal life. You have committed yourself to Him and He is committed to you. He is the strong fortress against all the winds, storms, earthquakes and devastations of this life. The psalm goes on to elaborate.
3 Surely He shall deliver you from the snare of the fowler
And from the perilous pestilence.
4 He shall cover you with His feathers,
And under His wings you shall take refuge;
Surely is a word that validates the truth! Surely, He will deliver you from the snare. Snares are traps set out by enemies – especially, the devil. They come in many forms: sometimes the snare is gossip, what someone else thinks of your or your friends. Sometimes a snare is something offensive from even a friend; it can ensnare your heart and make you bitter. Sometimes a snare is feeling forced into an action against your best judgment, knowing better and still doing it under duress. It will gnaw away at your heart. A snare is anything that can break you away from fulfilling your faith journey. Yet, God will deliver you from these snares. When you see it, call out for deliverance! He will also deliver you from the perilous pestilence! That means He will deliver you from horrible diseases and plagues. We obviously need this promise right now when the whole world seems frightened out of their wits by a disease that has a 99% survival rate! Hold on to this promise and you will be delivered! Our loving God delivers us by shielding us, covering us with His wings, the most powerful protection in existence!
His truth shall be your shield and buckler.
5 You shall not be afraid of the terror by night,
Nor of the arrow that flies by day,
6 Nor of the pestilence that walks in darkness,
Nor of the destruction that lays waste at noonday.
The shield of faith covers our vulnerable parts. This photo is a sculpture created by Nicholas A. Calcagno for Northeastern Oklahoma A & M College.
His truth shall be your shield and buckler! Truth! As Jesus said in His prayer in the Garden of Gethsemane: Thy Word is Truth! Here is what He said in John 17:17-21:
17 Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth. 18 As thou hast sent me into the world, even so have I also sent them into the world. 19 And for their sakes, I sanctify myself, that they also might be sanctified through the truth. 20 Neither pray I for these alone, but for them also which shall believe on me through their word; 21 That they all may be one; as thou, Father, art in me, and I in thee, that they also may be one in us: that the world may believe that thou hast sent me.
Wow! Not only does the Truth, protect us as a shield, but it sanctifies us, sets us apart for the purpose of making us one with God. It also shows the truth to the world that Jesus was sent by God into the world to save all who will believe. Back in Psa. 91:5, we see that our true relationship helps us to not be afraid of terrors, warfare, snipers, diseases and other forms of destruction that may happen all around us. As we are released from these fears, we can have greater confidence and hope that our witness of what Jesus is doing in our lives, empowering us to live in relationship with God, will truly impact those that we are positioned to witness to. Verses and 7 and 8 help us to envision how great the protection of God is when we are living in Him.
7 A thousand may fall at your side,
And ten thousand at your right hand;
But it shall not come near you.
8 Only with your eyes shall you look And see the reward of the wicked.
Even though we are human like all these people who may fall, the difference is that we have spiritual forces, greater than any force on earth or created by man, protecting us. Even if we were to die, we know that our next waking moment will be in the presence of God. God promises that we will see the reward the wicked receive, but we will be safe. To be in relationship with God, saved by the sacrifice and resurrection of Jesus and filled with the Holy Spirit is the very best body and soul armor available to human beings. As children of God, we are protected by spiritual protection; our holy refuge is secure. What is greater than that? Stop being afraid of anything man or nature can do to you! Be strengthened in your faith and get out there in your spiritual armor, abiding in the shadow of the Almighty!
The promise is sure! God cannot lie! Jesus said in the continuation of His prayer in John 17: 22-23,
22 And the glory, which thou gave me, I have given them; that they may be one, even as we are one:
23 I in them, and thou in me, that they may be made perfect in one; and that the world may know that thou hast sent me, and hast loved them, as thou hast loved me.
Jesus prayed for you. He prayed for glory to be upon you. He prayed for oneness with God and fellow believers. He wants you to know you are loved by God and He wants the world to know it, too! His spiritual protection is available to you!
Yes, Lord, thy will be done!
